The Escape Velocity Podcast

You're on the show. Here's what to expect.

A relaxed, real conversation about building a business that runs without you. No gotchas. Just a couple of things to know so it's easy and sounds great.

First, thank you for saying yes. The Escape Velocity Podcast is about the honest, messy middle of scaling a company: the trust, the people, and the hard-won lessons it takes to get a business off the ground andout of founder gravity. You've lived it, which is exactly why you'll be a great guest.

What the conversation is like

  • Relaxed and conversational. Two operators talking shop, not an interrogation. My job is to make you the hero of the story.
  • About 30 to 45 minutes of recording. Block roughly an hour so we're never rushed.
  • We'll cover your story and a topic or two you know cold, plus the real lessons, including the stuff most success stories leave out.
  • Come as you are. It's honest and unscripted. Nothing to memorize.

How the conversation flows

Beforehand, we'll have a quick 15-minute prep call to get acquainted and pick one topic to dig into.Something you know cold that would genuinely help other founders. On the show, it flows like this:

  1. 1

    Intro

A quick intro: who you are and why you're worth listening to (about 60 seconds).

  2. 2

    Story

Your journey and the honest lessons, including the hardest one you learned along the way.

  3. 3

    Topic

The topic we picked in prep, gone deep. Your best, most useful thinking.

  4. 4

    Close

Where people can find you, and how our listeners can help you.

The one question I ask every guest

“What's the hardest lesson you learned while scaling, the moment that nearly pulled you back to earth?”

It's the heart of the show. You don't need to script it, but it's worth having one real story in your back pocket. What happened, how you recovered, what you learned, and how it made the business more sustainable. The more honest, the better it lands.

How we'll wrap

Near the end, I'll give you the floor with two quick questions, worth thinking about in advance:

  • “Where can people find you?” Your company, site, LinkedIn, a project, whatever you'd like to point listeners to.
  • “How can our listeners help you right now?” What you're actually looking for: customers, talent, partners, introductions. Be specific. Good things come from it.

This is your promo moment. It's yours to use however you like.

The setup & timing

  • When: we'll lock a time that works for you; plan for about an hour total.
  • Where: we record remotely on Riverside. You'll just click a link, right in your browser.
  • What you need: a laptop or desktop, a quiet room, headphones, and the best mic you've got.

Riverside & virtual tips

A few small things make the difference between “fine” and “great.” This is the whole prep:

  • Use Chrome or Edge on a laptop/desktop (not a phone or tablet), and allow camera + microphone when Riverside asks. You'll land in a quick “green room” to check your audio and video before we start.
  • Wear headphones or earbuds. This is the single most important one. It stops echo and keeps the audio clean.
  • Use the best mic you have. Even AirPods beat a built-in laptop mic.
  • Get on wired internet if you can, and close other apps, tabs, and your VPN so nothing competes for bandwidth. Pause notifications.
  • Don't sweat internet blips. Riverside records locally on your device in full quality, so a hiccup won't ruin the take.
  • Camera at eye level, a window or light in front of you (not behind), and a tidy background.
  • At the end, stay on until it says the recording finished uploading. Closing the tab too early is the one thing that can lose a recording.

How it works, start to finish

  1. 1
Quick scheduling. We lock a time that works for you.
  2. 2
15-minute prep call. We get acquainted and pick the topic we'll dig into.
  3. 3
Record. You click the Riverside link, we talk for about 30 to 45 minutes.
  4. 4
We handle the rest. Light editing, then your episode goes live in the following few weeks across YouTube, Spotify, and Apple.
  5. 5
You get shareable clips. I'll send a few short video clips and the links so it's easy to share with your network.
  6. 6
Let's grab coffee. After we record, I'd love to connect (virtually or in person). Let's talk business and see how we can help each other beyond the show.
