IDS

Think about the issue your leadership team talked about last week. Now be honest: is it the same issue you talked about the week before that? And the month before that? Most teams do not have a talking problem. They have a solving problem.

This Month’s Tool

IDS® stands for Identify, Discuss, Solve, and it is the beating heart of the EOS® toolbox and of every ENRG meeting we run. Here is the uncomfortable truth it addresses: most leadership teams spend their meetings discussing symptoms. The real issue hides two or three layers down, protected by politeness, history, and the fact that naming it might make things awkward. So the surface problem gets talked to death, everyone nods, and it comes back next quarter wearing a different shirt. IDS is a disciplined way to dig for the root, have the honest conversation once, and make it stick. If you have ever been to an ENRG meeting, you have watched this run live on real member issues. This month Jason pulls back the curtain on how to run it inside your own company, which is a fitting one for us, because it is the tool our whole community is built on.

Taught By

Jason Tolbert is a Professional EOS Implementer® who spends his working weeks helping leadership teams dig for root cause instead of treating symptoms, which makes him exactly the right person to hand this tool. IDS in the hands of someone who runs it for a living is a different experience than reading about it.

The Rest of the Morning

The teaching segment is only the opening act. After check-in and the tool, we move to the heart of every ENRG meeting: structured peer issue solving, where members put real problems on the table and the room works them to the root. We close by scoring the meeting out loud, one to ten, because we hold ourselves to the same standard we would hold your leadership team to. Come at 8:20 if you can. The conversations before and after are where a lot of the good stuff happens.
